By making New Iberia your new home, you will also be able to take advantage of Louisiana's homestead exemption.

The first $75,000 of the assessed value of your home and property is exempted from property taxes. And if you are a homeowner who is 65 years of age or older, and your adjusted gross income is less than $50,000, the Louisiana Constitution provides you with a special assessment level of that property for the first year you qualify. And the special assessment remains on the property as long as you or your surviving spouse remains eligible and applies annually for the benefit.
