New Iberia is steeped in history,
and you don’t have to travel far to experience it first-hand.
You can feel the Native American, Spanish, and
French influences as you stroll beneath the moss-laden majestic
oaks along Main Street, visiting the city’s Downtown Historic District
and Bouligny Plaza, named for New Iberia’s founding father.
All along Bayou Teche, you’ll see for yourself why legend
has it that Jean Lafitte buried his treasure beneath the oaks lining
the bayou.
Be sure to also visit the McIlheney Company on Avery Island, the
makers of the world-renowned Tabasco hot sauce. While you’re
touring the plant, you can also tour the island’s Jungle Gardens
and bird sanctuary.
Just down the road, you’ll also find the Konriko Rice Mill, Olivier
Plantation Store, sites of Civil War battles, the breath-taking Shadows-on-the-Teche,
and several other attractions. |
